India requires more argumentative Indians
India has the widest distribution in the world and therefore, all can participate in economic..
A REPORT published in Lucknow Times of 31 March, 2012 edition of the Times of India cites many instances of abuses, Indians as a people have faced at the hands of both Indians and foreigners.

Bombay High Court said last week that spitting is an inherent character of Indians. Press Council of India chairman Justice (retired) Markandey Katju said that 90% of people in India are fools. Their minds are full of superstitions, communalism and casteism. Former Indian cricket team coach Greg Chappell said that Indians can’t take responsibility. Former US President Richard Nixon said during a meeting, in a run-up to the Indo-Pak 1971 war, that Indians are slippery, treacherous people. While his assistant for national security affairs, Henry Kissinger said that Indians are the most aggressive goddamn people around. Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi said that Indians have small, unclean hearts. The US vice-consul Maureen Chao passed an almost racial remark about Tamils’ dark color. India’s outgoing chief vigilance commissioner, Pratyush Sinha, made an observation that one-third of Indians are corrupt and half are border-line. The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama said that Indians are lazy. The Chinese work hard!

As far as criticism of Indians is concerned the fact is that they do not deserve these harsh comments. The Hindu-dominated Indians have great wish to excel in life and to earn a lot of money. At least their elites fully understand that this is not possible without importing everything from the West. In order to make it mutually beneficial Indians need to be tolerant and not that big empiricist. They deliberately ignore the empirical data. While it may induce illiteracy among the literates many among them, those who need it still understand the world around them.

But such elites can’t be termed unmoving, selfish people. In majority of the parts of India even the lowest strata of the society wish to educate their children in missionary schools, therefore there is nothing wrong in elites embracing English and Anglican beliefs. The biggest flaw in India is that of distributions and that of disproportionate wishes. The Indian distribution is one of the widest in the world being heavily asymmetric and unequal. But, simultaneously Indians as individuals are the biggest beneficiary of the WTO outside the Western world.

As far as spitting is concerned that can be reduced by generating hygienic localities and by some psycho-behavioral therapies. Indians may appear fool from Katju point but they believe that as a group they can fool others. Chappell criticism is not up to the mark and as such Indians are not Westerners and should be compared with Asians and non-Whites. Former President Nixon could be reacting to Indira Gandhi and rise of Russian influence in the subcontinent. The same should be true for Kissinger. As far as Azad’s statement is concerned it could have something to do with pleasing the riches and offer a segmentation with others implying that Congress could be labeled as ‘elitist’ and ‘racy’. Afridi’s comments are the most erroneous and may hint at the frustration of Pakistan over Kashmir dispute. Of course, no nation can give such a big territory just to prove that it is big-hearted. People like Maureen should understand that Tamils have almost a state of their own and they are efficient too. Pratyush’s comments are exaggerated and academic in content but otherwise correct. Probably Dalai Lama is right but ‘upper caste’ Indians are as intelligent as Han Chinese.

India just does not have to grow but needs to grow with respect. While it is true that even a society as advanced as the US needs to shred inertia, India is shredding it at a higher rate than it should. Indian elites just need to keep simplicity out of their domain. While it is true that India belongs to all Indians, such a hugely asymmetric society can’t grow with all being the beneficiaries at all times. Without India growing and generating wealth, albeit with the support of the West, it will not remain stable socially, politically and economically. Moreover, government can’t provide those huge subsidies without growth and interactions.

What Indians require is to understand the world from their own theories. They need to be more analytical and argumentative about the positivity of India and its Hindu majority. As long India consumes without suppressing any identity it is okay.
