TEAM INDIA is on the cloud nine prior to the ODI series against Australia, thanks to the clean sweep in the test matches. India and Australia will play first of the three one day international at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi on Sunday, October 17. Michael Clarke will lead the Aussies from the front.
In the last five ODI's Indian team has won two matches, whereas it has lost three. The Aussies have also won two ODIs and lost three in the last five matches. The Aussie team looks good on the paper but Indians under Mahendra singh Dhoni have proved to be a formidable foe for the Aussies.
In the ODI series, India is playing without Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh. The 24-year-old Delhi opener Shikhar Dhawan has been called-up and is likely to make his ODI debut. In the batting department India will mostly dependent on their young guns Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, experienced Yuvraj Singh and captain Dhoni.
In the bowling department, Ashish Nehra will be supported by Praveen Kumar and either of Munaf Patel or Vinay Kumar. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who proved his wicket taking ability in the Champions League, is almost certain in the playing XI.
For Australia, Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson have been rested ahead of Ashes Series. Callum Ferguson has been recalled after almost a one-year gap. Shaun Marsh, all-rounder James Hopes and David Warner will boost-up the team along with captain Michael Clarke.
