India to ratify UN Convention on Corruption soon
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said that India will ratify the UN Convention on Corruption in a short period of time. He also said that the Lokpal Bill will be tabled in the Parliament in monsoon session.
FINANCE MINISTER Pranab Mukherjee, while speaking to media persons in Kolkata, said on Monday that India will ratify the UN Convention against Corruption within a short period of time. India had signed the convention six years back but it has not been ratified since then.

Mukherjee also took a potshot at opposition BJP over the Lokpal Bill, asking why the party had failed to pass it when NDA was ruling the country. He also said that there is a long legal procedure to ratify the UN convention and it will be taken up by the government soon.

Questioning the stand of BJP leader L K Advani over the Lokpal Bill, Mukherjee demanded to know what the BJP was doing when it was in power.

The Finance Minister said that a joint drafting committee comprising members of the civil society as well those from the government will discuss the Bill and give it the final shape. He also said that government will see that this Bill is placed in the monsoon session of the parliament.

Meanwhile, BJP leader L K  Advani today said that his party will support the Lokpal Bill and ensure that it is passed in the parliament without any hassles.
