WITH THE series tied at 1-1, a fully fit Team India take on the injury hit Australia at the Firoz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi for the 3rd one day international (ODI) of the seven match India Australia 2009 series.
Australia had won the first ODI in Vadodara by defeating India by 4 runs. But India came back strongly in the second ODI at Nagpur, beating the Australians by 99 runs.
India go on as the favourites to win the third ODI, keeping in view the current form of its batsmen and the injury factor which has hit the Australians very badly. After Brett Lee being ruled out of the series because of the elbow injury, the latest news is that Tim Paine the wicket keeper-opener suffered a fracture at Nagpur and won’t be playing the series.
The Kotla’s pitch won’t be easy to bat on, with the odd ball remaining low and with the pitch expected to assist the spinners, it surely will give the batsman a hard time.
Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t had a good series so far, but a big score is due and he just requires one good game to get back in form. Gautam Gambhir is in a top form and even everyone is expecting some fire works from Sehwag’s bat. Yuvraj looked in great touch in the 2nd ODI and a lot is expected from him. Dhoni and Raina, both had played brilliantly in the last match and had played exceptionally well, though India’s bowling and fielding are a bit of concern. India need a much improved performance from Harbhajan and the other bowlers also need to be consistent.
Whereas on the other hand, Aussie’s Shane Watson is capable of taking the match away from the opposition and Australia expect an all round performance from him. He will have a new opener in Shaun Marsh, who’s also capable of hitting big shots. Ponting and Hussey are the biggest threat for India and having them back to pavilion early, will be a great relief for the Indians. Cameron White has had the experience of playing at the Kotla pitch during the Champions league T20 and can be handy on the slow and low playing Kotla track.
Team India is full of confidence, whereas the Australians are very much capable of making a comeback.
All the best, Team India!
