India and New Zealand are scheduled to play their first T20 match at Visakhapatnam on 8th of September. Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have been the subject of focus as they are making a comeback to the Indian squad.
AFTER INDIA'S victory against New Zealand side in the Test series in a convincing manner, the men in blue are eager to come up with a repeat performance and win the T20 series as well. Though, there are some changes from the Test side, the core of the team still remains the same. All eyes would be on two players, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. They are making a comeback into the Indian team after a long absence. Harbhajan Singh had been dropped after his string of poor performances. Yuvraj underwent a career threatening cancer treatment. The first T20 match is scheduled to be played tomorrow, 8th of September at Visakhapatnam, reported zeenews.
These matches are considered to be an important one for both the players, as it would test their fitness level along with their form. It has to be said that it was a risky move to bring these players back to the Indian fold. But, to the advantage of the Indian side, these players bring in a lot of experience on the field, which would bolster the squad. They are not mere passengers of the Indian team. They are going to get a chance to prove themselves, which could also help them in sealing a starting 11 birth for the T20 World Cup in Sril Lanka as well.
Yuvraj should get a look in, as there are no suitable players for the no.4 batting position for India. Rohit Sharma has been given innumerable chances at this batting slot, but he has blown them whenever he has got a chance. Yuvraj is not only a capable batsmen, but also a decent bowler with a knack of taking crucial wickets. His slow left arm could come in handy especially in sub continental conditions, where the pitches are slow and low.
Though for Harbhajan, it is a tricky affair. R. Ashwin has started to carry the Indian spin bowling attack on his shoulders after Bhajji was dropped and he has carried the baton perfectly well. Dhoni does not even mind opening the bowling with Ashwin, which reflects the skipper's trust and faith in the bowler's potential. Ashwin is sure to to lead the attack in the T20s but, it is going to be a fight between Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh for the second spinner. Harbhjan is expected to get the nod, as he is also a decent hitter of the cricket ball. The selectors must have picked him so he gets the much required practise before the T20 World Cup. It might also be Singh's last chance to prove his critics and experts wrong who have counted him out. If he performs well in these matches, he has a greater chance of even making it to the ODI and the Test team, where Ojha and Ashwin have been doing extremely well.
The rest of the Indian players pick for themselves, such as Virender Sehwag
, Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli
, and Zaheer Khan. Though, the Indian team won the Test series, one cannot count out the New Zealanders in the shorter format of the game. They have some perfect players for this kind of game such as Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram, Daniel Vettori, Tim Southee, Nathan McCullum, and Kyle Mills. On a given day, they can make any team sweat on the field. The Indians cannot take these bunch of players for granted, as they have been a major success in the Indian Premier league, so they are not alien to the Indian conditions.
