The third ODI at Ahmedabad disappointed Indians riding high on last win. South Africa beat India by 90 runs as the last wicket fell with Jadeja going catch out.
India clearly missed Sachin and Sehwag as it lost hand down to South Africa third ODI in Ahmedabad. Selectors chose a young team for the game, but sadly it failed to pull India to victory.
"If we had somebody like Ashish Nehra or Zaheer, things would have been different," said Indian captain MS Dhoni after the defeat. "The kind of start they got, 340 would have been a decent total to restrict them to. We have done well [over the season], there have been injuries, we have missed key players, if you look at everything, we have done really well." And the Ahmedabad crowd boos Dhoni off.
Ab de Villiers, Man of the Match said: "It's always nice coming to India, we have been pretty up and down in the series, but ending up on a high note is pleasing." The scoreboard kept ticking very fast in the SA innings in this Ind vs SA match with the batsmen in full fire. A sense of revenge was pretty prevalent in the way the South Africans were batting throughout the day.
India had to quickly realize that pace wasn’t going to work on this pitch with the inexperienced seamers they had in their kitty. Dale Steyn's three strikes made sure South Africa picked up a consolation 90-run win over India in the third ODI in Ahmedabad.India lost their openers early and tried to rally around with a 95-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but the required run-rate climbed over nine runs per over and the resultant pressure consumed Rohit in the 25th over. The ball was stopping occasionally on the dry pitch and the bowling was disciplined, without looking overtly threatening, but the pressure of the big target induced the mistakes from the inexperienced batting line-up. Both the openers, Dinesh Karthik and M Vijay, played a few sparkling shots - Karthik's best was a well-timed punchy drive through cover point off Dale Steyn and Vijay's was a languid off drive against Lonwabo Tsotsobe - but both didn't utilise the start.
