ICC T20 World Cup
India Vs South Africa: Spinners hold the key
Two top teams of world cricket, India and South Africa would go head to head tomorrow against one another in the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. India topped their group, after playing some good cricket under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, while South Africa stood second in their group.

Many claim India to be favourites for the title after their stupendous performance in the group stages, where they remained unbeaten, defeating top sides like Australia, Pakistan, West Indies along with the hosts Bangladesh. But, undoubtedly, the Proteas would be India's biggest test in the competition so far.

The Indian team has always been a strong batting unit with the likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Raina, Dhoni, Yuvraj etc who have performed decently well in the tournament, though they have not been tested under any pressure. Rather than the batsman, it is the bowlers who have impressed with the white ball in their hand. Spinners such as Mishra, Ashwin and Jadeja have bowled superbly in the competition to set up victory for India.

These spinners might have to play another crucial role, if India is to reach the finals of the competition. The South African players are not comfortable playing spinners, so, India need to take advantage of this fact. Having said that, they too have some of the best batsmen in world cricket such as Duminy, De Villiers and Amla along with the batting exploits of David Miller and Albe Morkel. So, these batsmen are enough to scare the Indian team.

South Africa also has a good bowling line up, with their forte lying in the pace department. These bowlers are aware of India's weakness against short-pitched bowling, so, it would not be surprising if these bowlers try some chin music, provided the pitch allows them. Pitches in the sub-continent are conducive to spin bowling, hence they might have to pin their hopes on Imran Tahir and Duminy to control the Indian batsmen.

The match between these two giants might be decided by the spinners in their respective sides. A simple look on the team sheet reflects India to be a stronger side, but the format of T20 is such that the team, which plays well on the day has a greater chance of winning the match.
