INDIA HAS won the T20 world cup match against South Africa being played at St Lucia by 14 runs. Chasing a target of 186 runs in 20 overs, the Proteas were able to make only 172 runs for 5 wickets while chasing the tall total set up Indians, which was made possible by a brilliant hundred by Suresh Raina.
Despite some lusty hitting and great batting by Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith, the Proteas fell short of the target as they lost wickets at crucial points. Earlier, South Africa won the toss and asked India to bat first as it was expected the match would be a low scoring one.
However, it seemed as if Suresh Raina is continuing his IPL form, while playing the T20 world cup match for
Raina was ably supported by swashbuckling Yuvraj Singh, who also rose to the occasion and played some great shots in his 37 run cameo.
Indian batsmen played well in the second half of the 20 overs match as first ten overs did not yield much runs, owing to some strict Saf bowling, which led to choking of runs. Murli Vijay was bowled in the first over itself after he was caught by wicket keeper Boucher on the bowling of Rory Kleinveldt.
Dinesh Karthik also could not do much as he fell cheaply for 16 runs.
Meanwhile, the Proteas, who are chasing the target need 59 to win in 22 balls while Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith are batting.
