India Vs Sri Lanka final: Dhoni, Gambhir lead the chase
India vs Sri Lanka world cup is going the Indian way as captain Dhoni and southpaw Gautam Gambhir are playing brilliantly and taking the team closer to the Sri Lankan total of 274.
THE INDIA Vs Sri Lanka final match being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is poised towards an exciting finish with Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and ace batsman Gautam Gambhir joining hands to chase the total set by Sri Lanka.
Chasing the target of 274 runs, India were 205 for the loss of three wickets with both Gambhir and Dhoni playing sensibly and rotating the strike even as they dispatched the bad balls to the boundary.
Gautam Gambhir is playing on a well made 89 runs and looks set for a brilliant century assisted by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is also playing a captain’s inning even as India chases world cup glory.
India needs to make 70 runs from 71 balls as Indian score is 205 runs in 38 overs and looks all set to coast to the Sri Lankan total. Earlier, the Indians started in a disastrous manner with swashbuckling batsman Virender Sehwag getting leg before wicket in the very first over of the match.
The entire stadium was shell shocked into silence as the review demanded by Sehwag confirmed that he indeed was out leg before. Even as the flamboyance of Sehwag was cut short by Malinga, the brilliant Tendulkar was also sent back by the Sri Lankan fast bowler as the little master edged one to wicketkeeper Sangakkara.
It was left to the patience of young Virat Kohli, who played a responsible cameo of 35 runs to stabilize the Indian inning along with Gautam Gambhir. Kohli was caught and bowled by Dilshan at a crucial time, which brought in Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is perhaps making up for his failures with the bat in this world cup and is playing well after making a half century, even as he completed his 6000 runs in one-day cricket.
If India goes on to win this match, then Dhoni’s inning could prove to be the game changer in this final match. Both the Indian batsmen seem to have tired a bit as they have scored a lot of runs with singles and twos. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is also suffering with a side strain had to call the physio for help.

Even as this was being written, Gautam Gambhir was bowled by Perera at his individual score of 97 runs. This has brought Yuvraj Singh to the crease, who opened his account with a hit to the fence, much to the delight of the Indian fans.

It now depends on both Dhoni and Singh to guide India to victory as couple of more wickets will definitely mean disaster for India.
