India vs West Indies first ODI match in Port of Spain
Indian youngsters have a great chance to prove themselves against West indies in the ODI series and cement their place in the squad. India vs West Indies first ODI will be played tonight at Queen's..
THE ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 winner Indian team touring the West Indies will play its first one day international match today, June 6, at Port of Spain, after  India lifted the glorious trophy on April 2 in Mumbai.

In 1983, too, India kicked off its first international cricket assignment against the Caribbean team after the triumph of the 1983 Cricket World Cup.

The Indian team under the captaincy of Suresh Raina and the guidance of new coach Duncan Fletcher will take on West Indies in the first ODI of the five-game ODI series against West Indies at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain. At the same venue two days back the Indian team won the series opener, a T20 match, against the Caribbeans.

In the absence of six experienced senior members of the Indian team, many young Indian cricketers including S Badrinath, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have a good chance to cement their place in the squad on the basis of their performances in the current West Indies tour.

In the last two years, young Virat Kohli has performed consistently, and scored for the team on many occasions. Suresh Raina is one of the best entertainers of the team based on his all skills with the bat, bowl or on the field. Yusuf Pathan has abilities to destroy any bowling attack in the world, and has proved it earlier - but he needs consistency in his performance.

In bowling, one of the most experienced and one of the best spinners of contemporary cricket, Harbhajan Singh, is not in top form, but he is the most valuable bowler of the team. Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel are being considered as economical bowlers and can pick wickets.

In the West Indies side captain Darren Sammy has a big relief in the form of the return of Dwayne Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Kieron Pollard to the side. However, dashing opener Chris Gayle will not there to take on the Indian bowlers.

Since 2000 India and West Indies have played 33 matches, and the overall result is in favour of India by 18-14. Since 2007, the team that has batted first at Port of Spain in Trinidad has won four times in nine games.
