India has won the Asian Kabaddi Championship held in Iran. They defeated Pakistan in the finals of the competition, where the score read 53-38. But people in the country are hardly interested about it, as Cricket is the only game that most people follow.
IN A nation where Cricket rules the roost, does it ever matter if we win a competition apart from cricket? The Indian Kabaddi team won the Asian Kabaddi Championship at Iran. The Indian team defeated Pakistan in an easy manner as the score read 53-38 in favour of the Indians. The media has not brought this victory to the forefront too, as Kabaddi is not a glamorous sports nor a revenue generator for media houses, so do not be surprised if you see a major national daily carrying an article in the side bar of the sports page. Some newspapers may not even provide any space for this news too. We need to wait and watch till the morning newspaper comes to us.

There were 8 teams that participated in the championship at Iran, where India defeated Nepal 62 – 41, and Pakistan defeated the host, Iran who were supported by the locals, where the score read 62- 26 in favour of Pakistan. Had the game been Cricket or even Lawn tennis, the news of India winning a major tournament would have been flashed in every news channel and journalists would be queuing up for the players interview. But, sadly it is not the scene with Kabaddi at present.
It is not a big surprise that the youngsters want to become another Sachin Tendulkar or a MS Dhoni. They have seen these players making the country proud. But the irony is when people from other sports make the country proud; there are very few people who are present to acknowledge it, so they are not well known among the masses.
