INDIA  ACHIEVING their biggest win against Sri Lanka on the fourth day of the second Test in Kanpur and go up in series by 1-0. India beat Sri Lankans by an Inning and 144 runs. India's previous best against their neighbours was a victory by an innings and 119 runs in 1994. This victory was India's 100 Test victory overall.

Today Lankans started their innings from 57/4 and resisted the Indian bowling a lot. Thilan Samaraweera batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 78 runs. Sri Lanka looked to be more positive on the fourth morning, adding 149 runs in the session but India kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Zaheer Khan struck in his first over, dismissing Angelo Mathews with a bouncer. Mathews had crashed three fours in a row, which included a pull, and Zaheer placed a man at deep square-leg and tested Mathews with more bouncers.

The first was fended off in an ungainly manner and the next was top-edged to backward point where Rahul Dravid took a lunging catch. Samaraweera proceeded to stitch together a 61-run partnership with Prasanna Jayawardene but Prasanna, much like in the first innings, flattered to deceive but was cleaned up by an off break from round the stumps from Harbhajan Singh.

Muttiah Muralitharan scored quick 29 runs. For the 9th wicket Samaraweera and Mandis scored 73 runs. Visitors all out for 269 runs lost this test by an Inning & 144 runs

Debutant Indian spinner begged 2 wickets and over all 4 wickets in this test. Indian comeback seemer Sreesanth begged 5 wickets in the first inning and forced the visitors for the follow-on. Sreesanth was awarded with Man of the match
