Indian American Elected Governor of Louisiana
While the landscape of the US political system appears cloudy, there is one ray of hope. Bobby Jindal was elected Governor of Louisiana and high hopes have been placed on his shoulders.

REPRESENTATIVE Bobby Jindal is the first Indian American to be elected Governor, in USA.  He lost to Blanco in 2003.  The latter did not seek re-election since she did nothing while the people of Louisiana suffered the ravaging effects of hurricanes.

In the elections for Governor of Louisiana, Representative Bobby Jindal whose parents immigrated to the USA from India] became the first Indian American to be elected Governor.  He also became the youngest [36 years of age] and the first from outside of the traditional establishment to be elected.  Mr. Jindal obtained 53% with almost 625,000 votes in 92% of the votes counted. This confirms his victory and avoidance of a run-off.

Mr. Jindal was born in 1971 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the then recently-arrived immigrants from India. His legal name is Piyush Jindal but he started to use the name Bobby Jindal after watching an episode of the US Television Series “The Brady Bunch” which featured a character called Bobby.

He attended the Baton Rouge Magnet High School and graduated with honours. Afterwards, he went to Brown University in Providence Rhode Island and emerged with honours in Biology and Public Policy. He furthered his studies in Political Science at Oxford University. After Oxford, he joined McKinsey Company which is a law firm.

His honours include being named the India Abroad Person of the Year, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, Executive Director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, President of the University of Louisiana System, Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation and a member of the US House of Representatives.

He was defeated by Blanco in 2003.  Blanco did not go for re-election for Governor of Louisiana since she was portrayed as having done nothing while the people of Louisiana suffered the ravaging effects of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Blanco need not worry on that account; the Republicans and Democrats are famous for not lifting a finger while the people of Louisiana suffered the effects of Katrina and Rita.

My best wishes to Bobby Jindal and his family.
