Indian Army conducts surgical strikes across LoC: Destroys terror launch pads, kills terrorists
A surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) was conducted by the Indian Army against terrorist 'launch pads' that resulted into killing of number of terrorists on Wednesday night. The operation was launched with an aim to hit out at the terrorists who were planning to infiltrate into India, confirmed the Director General of Military Operations, Lt. General Ranbir Singh.

"The Army has conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads on the LoC and significant casualties have been caused. The motive of this operation was to hit out at the terrorists who were planning to infiltrate into our territory," Lt. General Singh said in a joint press conference today with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs.

As per the Army, special commandos crossed the LoC to conduct the operation in the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) last night. The commandos returned back to the Indian side safely without any casualty. The surgical strike was conducted without the involvement of the Air Force.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval monitored the entire operation for the whole night. And because of this reason Parrikar and Doval had cancelled their dinner with the Coast Guard Commanders on Wednesday night.

Reaction of Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif:

After India announced that it conducted a surgical operation across the LoC yesterday, Pakistan's PM Nawaz Sharif condemned the move and termed it as "unprovoked and naked aggression" by the Indian forces.

Pakistan media quoted him as saying, "Our intent for peaceful neighbourhood should not be mistaken as our weakness as our valiant forces are fully capable of defending the territorial integrity of our country," said the Prime Minister.

He further added that Pakistan can "thwart any evil design made to undermine the sovereignty of Pakistan."

However, Lt. Gen Singh said, "I spoke to the Pakistan DGMO and shared our concerns. I told him that we conducted surgical strikes last night."

Earlier on Thursday morning, two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire with Indian forces across the LoC, in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Post the September 18 terror attack on an Indian Army base in Uri, that took lives of 18 Indian soldiers, Prime Minister Modi had said that the Uri attack would not go unavenged.

Here's how Union ministers and political leaders are reacting on Twitter to the surgical strikes by the Indian Army:
