The Indian team put up a good show, which also witnessed several players contributing to the Indian score of 365 runs. Rahul Dravid was highest run scorer with 119 runs to his name.
THE FIRST Test match between India and England witnessed the Indian batsmen making merry at the expense of West Indian bowlers. At stumps, the Indian team's score read 365 for the loss of 5 wickets, when bad light stopped play. Rahul Dravid looked in great shape as he scored 119 runs in his usual, classical manner.
The Indian team won the toss and decided to bat first, which has always been their strength. The Indian duo of Sehwag and Gambhir answered the captain’s call by a good aggressive opening partnership. It was due to the opening stand that the Indian team has been able to put up a good score on the first day of the Test match. The first wicket of the match fell in the form of Sehwag, who scored an attacking knock of 38 runs from 33 balls after putting up an opening stand of 66 runs in a span of 12 overs. After which there was no looking back for the Indian team.
As usual, expectations were high when Sachin Tendulkar rode to the middle looking for his 100th ton, but it was not to be, as he fell for 38 runs, reported timesofindia.com. Perhaps, the pressure is getting to him, as it has been long that the whole world has been waiting for his century. But, still we saw another Indian great, the Indian wall, Rahul Dravid batting brilliantly to score a century, where he got dismissed for a score of 119 runs.
VVS Laxman is looking in great touch as he is still batting with 73 runs to his name. If all goes well tomorrow, he may be the second centurion for the match. But it was very unfortunate for India, as the night watchmen sent into bat after Dravid’s dismissal, Ishant Sharma, went for a golden duck bringing the day's play to an end - as umpires stopped the game due to bad light.
The West Indies team walked off the field in a tired manner as they had to do all the running on the field. The first day of the Test match belonged to India. If the West Indies team is to make a comeback they need to remove VVS Laxman early, as he has been looking in good touch to score more runs. The Indians would like to make as many runs as possible in the first innings to put the West Indies team on the back foot.
