WITH THE Indian team scheduled to play their ODI series against England starting September 3, the Indian squad for the series have been announced. There are some surprise selections as Rahul Dravid has come back into the team while Harbhajan Singh has been dropped. Yuvraj Singh, who received the man of the series award, has also not been included in the team. Both these players are currently injured.
Dravid’s entry into the ODI squad has surprised many a people as the last ODI match he played for India was two years back. Another notable absentee in the squad is Yusuf Pathan, who lacked consistency whenever he got any chance to play in Indian colours. While players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has been playing really well, so they would be forming the backbone of the Indian middle order along with Suresh Raina and Dhoni. The selectors have also decided to include another wicket keeper Parthiv Patel as he is a reliable batsman as well.
The Indian bowling department has mostly been the same for some time now, with only Harbhajan Singh missing from the regular list of bowlers.
R Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar and Amit Mishra are the bowlers that have been roped in for the ODI series.
It was disappointing for Ashish Nehra as he had already submitted a fitness certificate to the BCCI, which made him available for selection. But, the Indian selection board thought, otherwise. Pragyan Ojha, the left arm spinner is also not included in the team. He could have offered a variety in the Indian bowling line up.
Overall the team looks pretty strong enough to challenge the English side on their home soil. It can be categorized as a team, which comprises of both experienced and young players who have jelled with the team, as they have been playing together for some years now. The English side would be confident of winning the Indians, who has not had a good time in the ongoing Test series.
