There have been continuous demands from the citizens that the government should raise the bar on subsidised cylinders from 09 to 12. But for no use. However, now the citizen have got a strong support in the form of Congress scion Rahul Gandhi, who while speaking at the AICC meeting yesterday said that there should 12 subsidised cylinder instead of nine.
Now after Rahul's voice behind them, citizens may hope that anytime soon the government will announce a new year gift to their kitchens. Petroleum minister Virappa Moily has also said that the cap would be raised anytime. Notably Rahul Gandhi had made request to the Prime Minister, that its becoming hard for Indian women to adjust in 9 cylinder and they want more for their household.
If government accepts the Rahul Gandhi's demand it would really a good news for Indian families, however, the move will put an additional burden of Rs. 3,300 crore to Rs. 5,300 crore on the exchequer in the form of subsidy.
Moilly, who till last week had maintained that there was no proposal for raising the quota of subsidized LPG cylinders a household is entitled to in a year, said the decision will be announced after the Cabinet approves of it.
Presently a consumer in Delhi pays Rs 410.50 for each of the subsidized cylinder against the cost price of Rs 1,173.20. If the cap is raised to 12, around 95-97 per cent of the connections will get the benefit.
