The virtual deluge of migrants exerts tremendous strain on the social infrastructures available in Australia. Fanatical jingoism is the deadly Indian trait that is aggravating the woes of Indians trying to settle Down Under.
MIGRANTS FROM India (The term Indians includes Bengalis, Punjabis, Tamils, Sindhis etc, who live on either side of borders that came into being when British colonial era came to an end, as well as Sinhalese, Kashmiris and Nepalese.) constitute about 7 per cent of Australia’s population.
So the community can reasonably be expected to contribute one out of every 14-15 crimes occurring in the country over a long period. In the short term perspective, it should not cause alarm as long as the figure shoots up to over 15-20 per cent of the total. Broadly, this would apply to crimes in every category. That is why there is big outcry based on cases of fraud, murders, rape, etc involving Indians about Indians coming to Australia and indulging in shortchanging or murdering each other. Similarly, only dim-witted people will consider these migrants as perfect law-abiders until less than 3-4 per cent of the crimes relate to them. By the same token, there is no sense in crying hoarse about being ‘racially targeted’ by spoilt brats and hooligans as long as assaults remain within a reasonable range, after taking the proportion into account.
Victoria’s Premier John Brumby has said, ‘On an average if you have 14 crimes that occur every week, one will affect that community. But that doesn't mean that they are being targeted or it's racially motivated.’ India’s bloated foreign affairs bureaucrats have no use for such cold logic. The ministers and the babus are doing everything to project as ‘racist’ any street crime faced by Indians that is reported by Australian media. Mega budgets from the exchequer for lobbying have roped in the Indian media to whip up a racism debate about a slew of attacks on Indian students in the last year. There has been no effort to study the extent of over-representation of Indian victims, if at all present, to street crimes by vagabonds. Crying wolf about an imaginary risk or insult faced abroad by persons of Indian origin has been the standard tactic of Indian leadership. It diverts attention of those still living in the country from scandalous state of affairs with respect to education and employment opportunities. Demonstrations held by jobless, hyper-emotional Indians, fueled by misinformation, have ignored just one pertinent point: There is no such thing as an ‘Indian race’ in vogue! The complexion of the population in India including territories that have since seceded range from fair to dark; their facial bone structures range from sharp/oval to round. The Indian stock is a mix of Dravidian, Oriental, Malay, Semitic, Turkish, Arabic, Moorish, et al races. There is also a streak of Aryan characteristics as claimed by certain high-bred pundits of India even though Nazis ridiculed them declared that only Caucasians incorporate the Aryan ‘super-race’ to lord over the planet. Media pundits have boasted vindication of the hatchet job when Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd declared that his son-in-law had worried him with stories about racism in Australia. It was conveniently forgotten that he was referring to a resident of Hong Kong married to his daughter. Chinese, Koreans and Japanese are bracketed with Indians in this respect. President of Victoria's Indian Federation, Vasan Srinivasan said he does not see the issue as ‘racist attacks on Indians’ alone. He explains: ‘Four years ago there were 11,000 Indian students who came to Australia, now there are 95,000 in Victoria alone.’ The problem, then, is due to the virtual deluge of migrants that exerts tremendous strain on the social infrastructures available. Vociferous ‘patriots’ of India have compounded the problem of juvenile delinquency that is prevalent in any affluent society. Rather than the prevalence of crime, the attitude of the rulers and courts toward the evils is more important. Australia, whose high prosperity attracts migrants, stands far ahead of India in this respect too. Unfortunately, while womanizing, riotousness, murder or dishonesty can hardly be considered as common ‘Indian traits’, the same cannot be said about jingoism. It is this deadly Indian trait that is aggravating the woes of Indians trying to settle Down Under. The problem stalking them is not racism or the unwillingness of Australian authorities to acknowledge it. The authorities in India would have done a great favour to these Indians if they refrain from complicating matters
