Indian mobile phone makers planning to sell globally

WITHIN A very short period of time after starting operation Indian mobile handset manufacturers have achieved stupendous success in the domestic market. Snatching of an impressive 14% of the domestic market by these domestic producers from the well entrenched global players stands testimony to it.

After engraving their success story in domestic market they have became far more ambitious and planning to expand their operation to the emerging and promising markets of Asia, South Africa and South America.

Micromax, the largest Indian brand with a market share of 4.1% is now planning to enter other markets like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Russia and whole of Africa. Next to Micromax there comes Spice (3.9% market share) and Karbonn (3% market share), who have similar ambitious plans to expand their operation to other countries. Lava, a fairly new player in the league, with just ten months of existence, is already is already planning to try it’s fate in South Asia, Africa and South America.

One thing is worth mentioning here is that all these markets are of huge size and holding enormous potentiality. Market analysts are of the opinion that these markets are now in the similar position in which India was, a few years back. So these promising markets are still in the stage of expansion.

According to the sources from these companies, their policy to woo customers in these new markets will basically remain the same as in India. That is to sell phones loaded with numerous features at dirt-cheap prices. A significant problem that the Indian companies are most likely going to face in these new markets is the problem of distribution. So the first challenge ahead of them is to get a proper distribution network in place.
