Indian ODI team has its share of merits and demerits
The Indian team for the ODI series has been announced, which seems to be balanced with youth and experience. The Indian team has both merits and demerits associated with it.
THE INDIAN team has already lost the ongoing Test series against Australia, which has embarrassed the nation in a big manner. They can restore some pride by winning the ODI series, which is scheduled to start on the first week of February. Hence, the team for the series has also been announced by the selectors and they have tried to send the best squad possible to bring laurels to the country.
The Indian team is, ‘as always’ very strong on paper and this team comprising of Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Raina, Rohit Sharma Kohli, Dhoni,
Zaheer Khan and U. Yadav looks good enough to beat the Australians and the Sri Lankan team, which is the third team for the tri series. Those players who are involved in the ongoing Test series, such as Sehwag, Gambhir, Sachin, and Zaheer need to erase their memories of the current tour, which has mainly been negative.
On the positive front, many players in the team flying from
India to Australia are young, so they would have a spring in their stride. They would be providing the much-needed blend of experience and youth in the team, which is an ideal way for any team to go ahead. Some of the youngsters such as Rahul Sharma, Jadeja, S. Raina, M. Tiwary, and Rohit Sharma would also play a mojor role in lifting the standards of Indian fielding. These youngsters throw their body on the line and have controlled aggression, making them competitive on the field. Sachin’s presence will be handy for the youngsters.
On the contrary, players mentioned as youngsters here, lack experience, playing on such huge grounds and pitches, which are alien to them. They need to adapt as early as possible, else it could be the same story like the Indian Test players, where they are been thrashed all round the park by the Aussie batsmen and their wickets were falling like nine pins. Specialist ODI players like Suresh Raina need to work hard in the nets, as he has a huge problem while playing short pitch bowling, which the aggressive Australian bowlers would love to exploit. The inexperienced bowling line up might prove costly, if the Aussie batsmen such as Warner, Ponting, Haddin take the attack to the Indian bowlers. The Indian middle order looks inexperienced, which the Australians would target.
The ODI series is a big challenge for the young guns of Indian team, who needs to carry the Indian team on their shoulders for the next decade or so. If they prove their class against the Aussies on their own backyard, then, one would have to say they are ready for the future - only time will tell.
