The recent scam by the stakeholders and the major role players of the Indian Premier League is really a shame on the age-old and highly unified country, India which is rich in culture and civilization.

The fault lies basically with the income tax and other concerned authorities that are well aware that such a thing happens quite often in all such activities. They should be vigilant enough so that no one dares to get involved in such nefarious rent-seeking and directly unproductive profit- making activities in the terminology of the “New Political Economy” an offshoot of the conventional economics.Everyone knows that IPL is just a wealth creating exercise. The game of cricket has been tapered off from 5-day test matches to one-day matches, and then to Twenty 20, and finally to the game involving huge stakes; it appears that gradually it will taper off to 10-10 overs, 5-5 overs and then 1-1 overs, and finally get completely eliminated. IPL generates a number of problems that continues to bedevil cricket today like umpiring disputes, betting controversies, match-fixing, and even a riot.
In essence, there has been a shift that has moved the game of cricket from entertainment into a money- making venture amidst unethical and immoral comments being made by the stake holders against each other. Just see how Shah Rukh Khan recently made such remarks against the cricket legend Gavaskar? This kind of demeanour does not encourgae cricket rather on the other hand degrades the ethics of age-old game of cricket. It has really distorted the whole texture and fabric of cricket; it is not the same game that it used to be long back. It is more a money-making and money-creating device rather than a disciplined sport. The major stake holders like Lalit Modi, Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Preity Zinta, Mandira Bedi, Mukesh Ambani and Vijay Mallya, and many others (including politicians) have surely tarnished the image of cricket. People who used to like them as actors and business men have really started disliking them as the IPL major role players. There is no end to making money. Not only these the game has also become obscene if you tend to look at the cheer girls.I think, the government and the concerned authorities should see that such scams do not happen in the future. For this, the culprits should be severely and deterrently punished in such a manner that no one dares to repeat such an exercise again.
