Indian President Pranab Mukherjee greets the people of Iran on Nouroz
In Iran, Nouroz is going to be celebrated on March 21 to mark the beginning of the New Year. It also marks the ancestral festivity that heralds the beginning of spring and the renewal of nature. Further, the festival promotes values of peace and solidarity among people.

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee while extending his greetings and felicitations to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the eve of Nouroz, in a message to His Excellency President Dr Hassan Rouhani, has said, "On the occasion of Nouroz, I extend warm greetings and best wishes to you, the government and the friendly people of Islamic Republic of Iran."

He added, "The close friendship and cooperation between India and Iran are built on historical, civilisational and cultural ties spanning more than two millennia. In modern times, our bilateral relations are defined by close and multifaceted cooperation in diverse fields. We look forward to developing our mutually beneficial partnership to greater heights in the coming years."

The UN has recognised the festival as the International Day of Nowruz since it 'transcends national borders, religious divides and other differences to unite communities with bonds of goodwill. Such common purpose can help humanity rise to this moment in history'.
