Indian Railways asks commoners to select new uniforms for its staff
The Indian Railways is aiming a big makeover by the end of this year when its staff members will be seen in brand new uniforms. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has asked commoners to come out with their choice of uniforms.

In a poll being conducted on Facebook, people can select new uniforms for the Railway staff. The online poll, which started on Wednesday is being done after an overwhelming response by a campaign which was run to choose colour palette of the uniforms.

Fashion designer Ritu Beri designed few themes which were Indian culture centric namely 'Ethos of India', 'The Golden Period', 'The legacy of the Nawabs' and 'The Vibrant Soul of India'.

And the theme chosen by the valued passengers, through the poll campaign was 'The Vibrant Soul of India' - the color palette of which was inspired by pop art encompassing elements of culture, business, music and entertainment.

Keeping those colours in mind, Ritu Beri has designed the costumes for the railway personnels including station manager, housekeeping, chief catering in-charge, waiter, porter, locomotive driver etc. All the designs have been uploaded on Facebook, where 2 to 5 options are given, and one can choose from the dress codes.

Ved Prakash, Director, Information & Publicity at Ministry of Railways said, "We have put up the poll on Facebook, it will also be put up on MyGov.in. We will also ask the railways staff for their view. A final call on all the uniforms will be taken in the coming days. We plan to run this poll for around 15-20 days."

The Indian Railways in recent times has tried to reach out to people on social media to get their feedback. The final poll results will be out by October, and the new uniforms are likely to be seen by early next year.

Meanwhile, the railway minister has expressed a desire that he would like the new uniforms to be made of khadi.
