UNION RAILWAYS minister Mamata Banerjee has indicated that in the upcoming railway budget she has no plans to increase passenger fares. She also offered a olive branch to the Left Front at a railway programme at Haldia in West Bengal. She said that if the Left parties wanted the railways could run special trains for the Left Front rally on February 13. Railway minister also said the Indian Railways will recruit about 3 lakh people across the country.
As per the reports, union railway minister Mamata Banerjee said, "Trains are for common people and the railways can't be run like the airlines. I did not increase fares in the last two years, keeping this in mind. We are continuing with this policy though the railways had to incur an additional expenditure of 5,000 crore due to rise in the price if diesel. Those who claim that railway projects in the state will never take off due to paucity of funds are probably not aware that their costs have already been accounted for in the budget."
She also said at a railway programme in Haldia that the Indian railways will recruit about 2.5 lakh - 3 lakh people from all over the country. She also said that the written tests will be held throughout the country and the entire process will take over six months.
Earlier, Union railways minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation of a diesel multiple unit (DMU) coach factory at Haldia, a wagon component factory in nearby Jellingham and the second Haldia dock complex of Kolkata port at the function.

More than 50% people r poor -Garib. No need for worldwide publicity to show railways r Garib. It is better to rename the train as 'Janaganamana Rath' or 'Janagan Rath' or 'Janomana Rath' or 'Manarath' or Ganarath'.
Change Name Garib Rath to Lok Rath or Janta Rath
Indian Railways are operating 24 ??????Garib Rath?????? trains in the country. There are superfast trains whose speed is not less than those of Rajdhani Express trains as is seen in the Railway time table i.e.:
1. H.N.Din to Chanai and return.
2. H.N.Din to Bandre Terminal and return.
3. H.N.Din to Rajinder Nagar and return.
The ??????Garib Rath?????? trains are fully A.C-3 trains in which generally, economically well-to-do people (far far above the poverty line) trevelled daily. Our Residents Welfare Association (Regd.), Chandigarh members have conducted a general servay at various places and counter of reservation offices that people feel shy even hesitate to ask and utter the name as ??????Garib Rath?????? tickets and of course the nomincleature ??????Garib?????? is not very much appreciated. In our social and friend circle this word does pinches to the travelers and is deviding the society by enlarge. It is astonishing what compel the then Railway Minister to pick up this name for these prestigious trains? May be to fetch the garib vote bank? The foreigners do travel in these trains.
It is also pointed out that the trains No.4603/4604, 5209/5210, 5211/5212, 9151/9152 and 9119/9120 are simply ??????II Class?????? trains which have not been named with word Garib of course generally economically weaker people travel in these trains.
Hon??????ble Railway Minister being custodian of the Indian Railways is requested to replace the name of ??????Garib Rath?????? to ??????Lok Rath?????? or??????Jan Rath?????? or any other suitable name as I feel that Indian Railways is very rich establishment and there is no scope for a word like ??????GARIB??????. It is expected that the name of the Garib Rath will be replaced and Durando Train from Chandigarh to Amritsar will be commenced in the proposed budget in the Parliament on Railway Budget on 25.2.2011.
