Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 ? My suggestions
After losing the 2 match T20I series 2-0 to Australia, it was hoped that India would make amends during the ODI series. The hope became almost a certainty when India won the first two matches of the 5-match series. But Australia made a stunning comeback to win the remaining three matches to pocket the series 3-2.

It is to be noted that India beat Australia 2-1 in Australia, the first ever bilateral series victory down under, hardly a month back. From such a stupendous achievement to a home series loss within a span of four weeks is difficult to digest.

So, what went wrong?

Nothing went wrong, except that India tinkered with their playing combination every now and then plus Australia played better cricket.

The home series was considered as the last opportunity to fine tune the world cup bound squad. So naturally some players were given opportunities to prove their mettle. Unfortunately, they did not click. Australia played well, particularly chasing a mammoth 358 during fourth ODI, and therefore they deserved to win the series.

In a sense it is good as this will act as a perfect wake up call for the India team.

After the IPL matches staring later this month and ending early May, India will travel to England for the world cup. Who should be there in the flight?

Here is my analysis.

Openers: Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are undoubtedly the best opening combination India has now. There is no need to tinker in this.

Middle Order: Virat Kohli, M S Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav should bat from position 3 to 5.

Allrounders: Hardik Pandya as a fast bowling allrounder and Ravindra Jadeja as a spinner allrounder. They should bat as No. 6 and 7.

Bowlers: Three fast bowlers (Bhubaneswar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami) and a spinner (Kuldeep Yadav).

On any given day, fitness permitting, the above eleven players should take the field during the world cup. The four other players to make the squad of 15 are as follows:

1.     Rishav Pant ? As a reserve opener cum wicket keeper

2.     Vijay Shankar ? As a fast bowling allrounder

3.     Yazuvendra Chahal ? As a specialist spinner

4.     Ambati Rayudu ? As a specialist batsman

Note that K L Rahul does not get a place in this team. He can only be considered in case any batsman gets injured.

The IPL performance should not be a factor in selecting the team for the World Cup. It is a general tendency to factorize IPL performance during selection process, but I strongly suggest that the selectors should avoid this trap.

The world cup is in England the conditions of which are in sharp contrast to India. That is why IPL heroes might not click there.

I have a feeling that this time the allrounders will have a major role in a team's winning cause.

Hope the selectors will chose wisely.
