Indian tops medal tally in Hari Ram Indian Wrestling Grand Prix
With 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals, India stood at the top of the medals tally among 13..

WHEN MAJORITY of Indians were watching the IPL finals, there were some wrestlers who made India proud by winning the Hari Ram Indian Wrestling Grand Prix. India was the best nation in the competition with a haul of 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals. The competition concluded yesterday at the Indira Gandhi indoor stadium in New Delhi.

India won their second gold medal of the competition courtesy Praveen Rana who defeated a wrestler from Georgia in the 66Kg freestyle category. India had received its first gold medal on Saturday. The Indians for many a years have been a strong team in the wrestling arena, though, they hardly have any medals to show for their efforts.

But, this could prove fruitful with the Olympics just round the corner. It could give the Indian wrestlers who have qualified for the competition the much needed confidence when they take on best wrestlers in the world. India stood at the top of the medals tally, but there were only 13 nations that had participated in the competition. USA and Korea finished second and third respectively.

One of the main problem that lies with such lesser known sport like wrestling in India is that it does not get any major sponsors, so infrastructure remains is a concern. But, after Sushil Kumar won an Olympic medal during the last Olympics, things have changed, though not to a great extent.
