India's French Open story so far
Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupati have reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles competition in the ongoing French Open 2012. Leander Paes and his Russian partner, Elena Vesnin are also scheduled to play their quarter finals match. After their ousting from the doubles competition in both the men's and women's, India's only ray of hope is the mixed doubles competition.
THE ONGOING French Open has been a major disappointment for the Indian tennis players in the fray, such as Leander Paes, Bopanna, and Bhupati, as they all been ousted from the men's doubles competition, whereas Sania Mirza lost in the women's doubles competition. It is only in the doubles competition that India has been a major force during the Grand slams. This French Open performance may even not justify that, but a victory in the mixed doubles may balance the view.

Now, their only way to glory during the ongoing French Open can be the mixed doubles crown, where Sania Mirza partnering Mahesh Bhupati has reached the semi finals of the competition. Leander and his Russian partner Elena Vesnin are scheduled to play against the top seeds, Liezel Huber and Max Mirnyi to reach the last four stage, reported PTI.

The Indian pair of Mirza and Bhupati played out a superb game to shut the doors for the second seeded Czech-American pair of Kveta Peschke and Mike Bryan to win the game in straight sets, with the score reading 6-2 and 6-3. Now, they would be eagerly awaiting for the Galina Voskoboeva/Daniele Bracciali and Nuria Llagostera/Oliver Marach quarter finals match, as the winners would play against the Indian pair, who look in red hot form.
Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupati won the Australian Open 2009. They would be looking ahead for their second Grand Slam as a pair in the form of French Open title. If they do so, they would be in great shape during the London Olympics and could prove to be a serious contender for the mixed doubles title. But, this is only possible if Sania Mirza gets a wild card entry for the Olympics. The ITF is scheduled to issue its Olympic Qualification list on June 28, as per website thenewstribe.
