India's ranking dips, England ranking rises after ODI series
The recently concluded ODI series has seen a contrast in rankings as the Indian team's ranking has dipped to 5th position in ICC rankings, whereas England have attained fourth position in its rankings.

THE INDIAN team were crushed by England in the ODI series, as they could not win any of the matches in their coloured uniform. As per the ICC rankings, the Indian ODI ranking dipped to 5th place from their 3rd position, which was their ranking before the ODI series began. The Indian team has never been ranked so low since 2008. The rankings are testimonial to India’s performance in the ODI series.

Many had expected the Indian team to climb up the ICC ranking charts from their number three position, after they played superbly to win the World Cup earlier during the year. But this ODI series against England missed some of those core players who were part of the World cup team. These injuries cannot be made an excuse for the Indian team’s weak performance.

It also has to be understood that the Indian team were unlucky in the ODI series, as there were times during the series where the Indian team had chances of winning but rain played spoiled sport. India’s best chance of winning any match was during the last ODI in which the Indian team piled up more than 300 runs on the board. The English team won the match through the Duckworth Lewis method, which left the Indians disappointed, as the team wanted to round up the trip with a win.

It must have been very hurtful for the Indian team to lose all their matches, as a result of which the English team has climbed upto the fourth position in ICC rankings. It was humiliating for the Indian team, being the World Champions, and losing so badly. But, we cannot take anything away from the English side, as they played consistent cricket throughout the series.

The English team would be a confident side after they thrashed the Indian side convincingly. Now, other teams would also be scared of the English team, if they play the way they did against India during the recently concluded tour.
