India's tour of Zimbabwe: chance for youngsters to shine
A new looking Indian team led by Virat Kohli has left for Zimbabwe where the men in blue will play five ODIs starting July 24 in Harare. This tour would provide a good chance for youngsters to make an impression.

The Indian team will miss the services of the MS Dhoni, who has been rested for the tournament along with Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin. As a result, the new bowling attack will include Amit Mishra, Parvez Rasool, Mohammed Shami, Vinay Kumar, Jaidev Unadkat and Mohit Sharma. Though inexperienced, they have proved themselves in the domestic level.

With pitches in Zimbabwe expected to assist seamers, it is going to be an important series for this bowling attack, for a good performance in the series could open doors for them to the Indian team permanently.

In the batting department, there is no dearth of talent and class. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma seem to have dislodged the opening pair of Sehwag and Gambhir, who have once again been left out of the tour. But with the inclusion of Ajinkya Rahane, Dhawan and Rohit will be under pressure to perform. If these players show good form, it would not be surprising to see the same duo to open the batting for India in Tests also shutting the door for Sehwag and Gambhir completely.

This series could also be an important one for Cheteshwar Pujara, who has shown his class in the longer format, but still needs to find his feet in the ODIs. A good performance in this tour could help the player in putting his case forward for the ODI batting spot.

Even if these players fail to grab a place in the Indian team after a good series, they should not lose hope as they are only going to strengthen the bench strength of the team. These players will remain in the loop and can be recalled in between tours in case of injuries to players. This series is a win-win situation for all the cricketers, even if they fail, as they will come out richer with the experience of playing at the international level.
