India does not have anything to lose in the ongoing ODI series now, as they have already lost the series 2-0 against Pakistan. India would only be playing for pride in the third ODI against Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in the nation's capital, Delhi. So, the Indian team should not be under huge pressure, and can come up with a positive approach right from the time they step onto the field. They need to play an aggressive brand of cricket.
THE INDIAN team has been dominated in the series by Pakistan. It is time for India
to give it back to them by going all out, irrespective of the series victory out of sight. The Indians are by nature an aggressive batting unit, which they should hold on to as well, when they play the last ODI of the series. Openers such as Sehwag and Gambhir needs to attack from the word go and rattle the Pakistan bowlers, which none of the Indian batsmen has been able to do so. Other batsmen such as Yuvraj, Kohli, Suresh Raina also need to do the same and score good and quick runs to put the Pakistan team on the backfoot, which they are capable of doing.
The Indian bowlers have looked better in this series than the batsmen, which is rare. But, they need to maintain the same form when they go in to bowl at the Pakistan batsmen. Bowlers such as Bhubaneswar
Kumar should swing the ball as he has been doing in the series and trouble the batsmen. Ishant Sharma
and Ashok Dinda should bowl agressively without worrying about batsmen scoring of their bowling. They should not take a back seat, but fight fire with fire.
But, these bowlers also needs to be supported by the Indian fielders. They cannot afford to drop catches and misfield during the game, as it is only going to demoralise the bowlers. Good Indian fielders such as Raina, Yuvraj, Kohli needs to lift the team with their fielding. MS Dhoni also needs to deploy an aggressive field with a number of slip fielders and fielders within the 30 yards circle to stop the singles. This can pressurise the Pakistani batsmen and may lead them to play risky shots leading to their downfall.
India needs to adopt to such aggressive measures in all departments – batting, bowling and fielding. In both the matches India lost earlier against Pakistan, India looked a defensive unit. But, they need to change their gears this time around and see what it would result to. There is no harm if India loses the match with such approach, as no one would doubt about their eagerness to win. But, if they win, it could be a great confidence booster as they have an important ODI series coming up against England and may be they can adopt such approach while playing against England as well.
