Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals organises Diabetes Fest
To mark the World Diabetes Day, Apollo Centre for Obesity, Diabetes & Endocrinology (ACODE) along with Delhi Diabetes Forum (DDF) organized a fun filled picnic to create awareness in Type 1 children and young diabetics along with their parents.

THE PICNIC was a part of World Diabetes Day celebrations, and included activities such as fashion show for children, quiz on diabetes for parents, poster making competition and other games spreading awareness on management of diabetes in children. Doctors and educators from ACODE were present at the celebration who answered all queries of children and parents.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr S. K. Wangnoo, Senior Consultant endocrinologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitalssaid, “Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease and is associated with deficiency of insulin. This causes sugar to build up too high in your blood. It is much less common than type 2 diabetes and typically affects younger individuals. Children in Type 1 diabetes need insulin for survival since their pancreas is not producing insulin hormone at all. The awareness among the parents of children with diabetes is essential for better management of the disease. Recent advancements in the diabetes technology like Insulin pump, easy to use glucometers and insulin pens are readily available for use these days which make life with diabetes much simpler”

He further added, “Diabetes prevention is proven, possible, and powerful, and it's never too late to start.  The key is: small steps that lead to big rewards. However, tweaking the lifestyle could be a big step toward diabetes prevention.”

Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, India’s first JCI accredited hospital, is a joint venture between the Government of Delhi and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited. Commissioned in July 1996. Apollo Hospitals Delhi has the leading programme in kidney and liver transplant in the country. The first successful pediatrics and adult liver transplants in India were performed at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals.
