Injured Congress party workers allege Police atrocity in Odisha
Many Congress workers were injured in a clash with the police outside the State Assembly during a protest rally at Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The Congress party claimed that 400 workers have been injured and out of them 150 have been admitted in the hospital.

SOME POLICE personnel and journalists also sustained injuries in the clash. The media persons travelling for news coverage were injured and their vehicles were also damaged by the protestors.

The Congress protestors had organised a rally demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik allegedly involved in many number of scams. In fact, the protesting Congress workers tried to force their way into the State Assembly, and the police had to resort to lathi charge, teargas and firing in the air to stop the crowd.

Senior Congress leaders Jagadish Tytler, Mize Irshad Bag, Niranjan Patnaik and a number of party MPs and MLAs addressed the protectors before they tried to break the police barricade to enter the assembly.  Police officials claimed that the mob attacked and beat up a lady constable mercilessly after which they were ordered to use force against the Congress workers was given.

Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Mishra said that they used minimum force to disperse the crowd. He claimed that the crowd turned violent and indulged in vandalism outside the Assembly. He said the Congress workers were armed with sticks, rods, bricks and stones. Several of them were also drunk, said Mishra.

The DGP said that besides the lady constable, 60 other police personnels were injured and all of them have been admitted in hospital. Congress leader Soumy Ranjan Patnaik blamed the police for the violence, alleging that the lathicharge was unnecessary as the protesters were peaceful. He said the protesters turned violence only after the police lathicharge. The Pradesh Congress committee on Thursday called for Odisha band on September 10 to protest uncivilised and barbaric action of the police against congress activists, “This is well planned conspiracy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to sabotage the rally”.

What atrocity? Police behaving with goons as shown in Gangajaal? Let human right activists take that up. Congressmen should now stay concentrated on how to save themselves in next election

"Police atrocity" ? Do these party cadres even look at the mirror and do an introspection of their own hooliganism? What do they expect the police to do? stand by and watch everytime?
