INDIAN VICE captain Virender Sehwag has been ruled out of the five-match One Day International series against South Africa due to a shoulder injury. According to a statement by the BCCI, Mumbai middle order batsman Rohit Sharma will replace Virender Sehwag. Murali Vijay will also stay for the ODI series against back in South Africa as the 17th member of the Indian squad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement, "Virender Sehwag has been advised to withdraw from the ODI series against South Africa to tend to his shoulder. Rohit Sharma will replace him in the squad."
This is the third time in the calendar year that dashing opener Virender Sehwag has been ruled out due to his shoulder injury. Earlier, Viru missed the World Twenty20 tournament in May, which was played in the West Indies.
Team India's ongoing series against South Africa is the last series before the Cricket World Cup 2011, which is scheduled to start from February 19 in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Indian team management does not want to take any chance with their key player keeping in mind of the World Cup Cricket tournament.
India will play only one T20 match and five one day international matches against South Africa.
