INS Shakti inducted to Navy
The new tanker vessel INS Shakti joined Indian Navy on Saturday, which is an Italian built. Shakti 's induction enhances the power of Indian Navy in particularly in Indian ocean.
INS SHAKTI the Italian built tanker vessel joined Indian Navy on Saturday in Visakhapatnam and it was commissioned by Chief of Indian Navy Admiral Nirmal Verma.

It is second of the two Ocean tankers built by Fincantieri Shipyard of Italy for Indian Navy.

The induction of this vessel into Indian Navy enhances the power of Indian Navy in Indian Ocean.


The ship is one of the largest in Indian Navy and it has the length of 175 meters and width of 35 meters. The vessel can carry 15,000 tonnes of liquid cargo and fuels for ships as well as airplanes of Navy.


It also has the large space to place 500 tons of solid cargo like ammunition etc. the 30 tone deck crane is attached which enables simultaneous fuelling of multiple ships and transfer of heavy solid cargo at sea itself.


The tanker ship possesses the credible self defence capability and also has indigenous anti-missile defence system.


Before commissioning the vessel the Eastern Naval Command Chief Vice-Admiral Anoop Singh hoisted the national flag on it. The Italy ambassador to the India Gayakomo-d-montiforg and other important naval officers of eastern Naval Command attended the function.
