Integrate art activities into school life, a book shows the way
The book titled 'Learning through Art' is a teacher guide to help the classroom practitioners at the school level to integrate art work and visual skills with instructional activities. Written in a big-book format, it illustrates the curricular applications of art work and provides examples to the teacher to link learning of different subjects with the visual intelligence that is being advocated as a part of multiple intelligences theory of learning.

AUTHORED BY Jane Sahi and Roshan Sahi, the book can work as a valuable resource book for elementary school teachers in a big way. The book has been produced in a workshop mode by incorporating the experiences of innovative teachers working with young children. The book, thus, provides a sound interface between art and pedagogy.

The book has been divided into nine chapters as: Growth of the child through art; Planning and organizing; senses; Line and colour; Art and the environment; Art and math; Language and art; links across the curriculum; Topics for discussion with teachers. The topics are also important for the educators and trainers who are working in the field of teacher preparation and development at the elementary school level. The most interesting feature of the book is that linking art with language and mathematics.

The book is an Eklavya Publication – a Bhopal-based NGO - that runs into 160 pages with a lot of children’s art work and their interpretation for pedagogical implications. It is a well-researched book since it provides the references and list of other art-related resources. Not only the book is valuable for the teachers and trainers, it is equally good for the researchers involved in the area of pedagogy and curriculum studies. The book is a must for the school libraries and teacher education institutes.
