INTEGRITY, MORALITY and ethics are three basic virtues of mankind. Integrity is a state or condition of being a whole. Complete, unbroken, unimpaired, sound and in perfect condition. In other words it is about being consistent and honest. If one is serious about being a person of integrity you will think very carefully before giving your word. To anyone or anything and you will never give your word to two or more things that are mutually inconsistent. Integrity is a purely positive proposition.
It has nothing to do with good versus bad. According to Michael Jensen, “Integrity is just like the law of gravitation, there is no such thing as good or bad gravity. Like gravity, integrity is just is.”
Morality is the generally accepted standards of what is desirable and undesirable in a given society. In other words, it means what is considered by the society as good behavior and what is considered bad behavior of a person. Morality refers to a society’s standards or norms of right and wrong behavior.
Ethics is the agreement on standards of what is desirable and undesirable; of right and wrong conduct; of what is considered by that group as a good and bad behavior of a person, group or entity that is a member of the group, and may include defined bases for discipline including exclusion. Ethics refers to the set of values that apply to all members of a group or organization.
Thus, both morality and ethics relate to desirable versus undesirable behavior. Both are normative concepts in the sense that they deal with matters of good or bad, right versus wrong, whereas integrity is a positive concept. The difference is that morality and ethics are “what it should be”, and integrity is “what it is”.
