International Clown Week concludes
International Clown Week was celebrated across the globe by around ten thousand clown groups. At many places children's parties were organised which were entertained by the local clowns to make them smile and laugh.

Clowns International in London of United Kingdom, celebrated ICW with great gusto. Founded in 1947, Clowns International is the oldest established club for clowns and friends of clowns.

It is reported that there are over 20,000 clowns world-wide committed to make people happy, more so the kids. During the Clown Week (ICW), clowning events were held at market places, streets, malls, nursing homes, schools, and special education institutions to brighten up the faces of onlookers.

It was in 1991, the first Clown Day was observed and later the group Clowns of America converted it into  "International Clown Week".

In many places, children dressed like clowns, made other people laugh through their antics such as tripping over feet, wearing large shoes, sporting color wigs, juggling balls, and making funny facial expressions. The clown face decoration events were also observed as usual.

Clowns as laugh-makers are considered blessed and they heal the hearts of children with their putty red noses and baggy trousers.

During ICW, clowns groups visit schools, market places, orphanages, hospitals, old people's homes and give them a part of themselves to make them laugh.

According to clown groups, the makeup colour of a clown is a variation of pink, red, or tan which is often used to exaggerate facial features in size. The mouth is thickly outlined with white as are the eyes. The baggy garb is in bold colours, large prints or patterns, and suspenders for paints are used so make the clown a source of laughter.

Clowns often perform the slapstick form of comedy which is mischievous by making a fool out of themselves. In words of performer clown, Fanny Brice, "Being a funny person does an awful lot of things to you. You feel that you mustn't get serious with people. They don't expect it from you, and they don't want to see it. You're not entitled to be serious, you're a clown."

Another clown, Hugh Jackman, has expressed his feelings after having quit the vocation of clowning," I just love making a fool out of myself. I made my living as a clown at kids' parties for about three years.

Though the tradition of circus performances is slowly dying, however, every circus has an array of clowns to come between the sets to make people laugh and provide them comic relive after daring acts artists and animals. They indulge in gags, short skits, slapstick comedy and pantomimes to create laughter.
