International Day of peace observed in Srinagar
An NGO by the name of Kashmir Centre for Peace and Reconciliation took around 300 students to Lake Isle in Nigeen Lake to observe International Day of peace. For the safety of these students some civilian volunteers had also gone with the students.

IN A place like Srinagar, where people crave to find peace in their houses, and streets, an NGO by the name of Kashmir Centre for Peace and Reconciliation decided to observe an International Day of peace, which falls on 21st September every year. They decided to take around 300 students to one of the well known lakes in Srinagar, Lake Isle in Nigeen Lake. Students from various government schools were very excited, which could be seen from their faces, which had huge smiles.

Aamir Ali, who is the Coordinator Disaster Management & OSD with Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir said in an exclusive chat with Merinews.com, “The volunteers have been trained by the Disaster Management, Kashmir in collaboration with the Civil Defence organisation”.  These volunteers were assisted by Javaid Ahmed Tinda, who is one of the Civil Defense volunteers.

The place for the visit chosen by NGO is a very famous lake known as Nigeen Lake, which is also known as ‘the jewel in the ring’. It is from these lakes that one gets to see magnificent scenic views, and the students were very pleased to be in their own different small groups enjoying the view. It is a perfect time for these students as the water is said to be very cool during this time. It is also considered to be one of the best tourist destinations in Kashmir.

During the entire ride, the safety of the children was given great importance. This could be seen from the fact that Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo, had arranged around 20 civil volunteers as to keep a watchful eye on the students so that they do not fall into the water and so on. Hence, these volunteers had life jackets and tubes with them, in case the need arose.
