THE FIRST international conference on “ Intelligent Human Computer Interaction” (IHCI 2009) will be organised by Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad between January 20-23, 2009, at Jhalwa auditorium in which a number of foreign delegates will discuss different topics such as signal and vision processing, human computer interaction, natural language processing, knowledge discovery and data mining.
Mriganka Sur, Sherman Fairchild Professor of Neuroscience and Head, Department of Brain and Cognitive Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US will deliver key note lecture on Rewiring Brains.
Professor Sur studies the development, plasticity and function of the cerebral cortex of the brain, using experimental and computational approaches. His laboratory has discovered fundamental principles by which neurons of the cerebral cortex are wired during development and change dynamically in adulthood as they process information. He is the author of over 160 publications, serves on the board of major journals, and has delivered over 300 lectures world-wide.
Ajith Abraham from Centre for Quantifiable Quality of Service in Communication Systems, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway will speak on Human-Machine Interactive Computational Intelligence at the international conference. His research interests is in advanced computational intelligence include Nature Inspired Hybrid Intelligent Systems involving connection network learning, fuzzy inference systems, rough set, swarm intelligence, evolutionary computation, bacterial foraging, distributed artificial intelligence, multi-agent systems and other heuristics.
Dr Keith Cheverst, Department of Computing, Lancaster University, England will talk on Intersection of UbiComp and HCI. Keith’s research interests include distributed systems support for mobile and context-aware systems, mobile distributed group ware/CSCW applications and the human factors issues associated with context-aware computing.
Václav Snášel, Professor and Vice - Dean for Research and Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic will deliver speech on Web Content Mining. His research instructs include Multidimensional data indexing, Conceptual Lattice, Database Systems, XML indexing, Data compression, Stringology, Ordered sets, universal algebra, Information retrieval, Semantic Web.
Rada Mihalcea from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NLP and Cognitive science (Computational Humour), University of North Texas will speak on Computational Linguistics. Her research interests are in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and Information Retrieval.
IIIT-A Director Dr MD Tiwari said the basic goal of Intelligent Human Computer Interaction 2009 is to promote basic and applied research in Human Computer Interaction by exploring the advances each of these areas can bring to the other. This three-day workshop will provide an ideal opportunity to bring together influential researchers from all part of the worlds to discuss issues that are specific to the design of human computer interaction. The aim is to provide a forum to stimulate discussion on the current state of the arts and to build community for future collaborations.
Dr Tiwari said that as part of the conference, a national level Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira will be organised by IIIT-A at Prayag Sangeet Samiti auditorium in joint collaboration with Allahabad Press Club on January 22 from 5.30 pm in which Padamsri Dr Gopaldas Niraj, Munnavar Rana ,Sudhanshu Upadahaya, Sandeep Sharma, Mumtaz Naseem, Kavita Tiwari, Shweta Sargam, Shashank Prabhakar, Kamelesh Dwivedi, Ashok Hangama, Dr Kamlesh Rajhans , Pragya Vikas, Kwaza Javed Akhtar, Yash Malaviya, Preeta Vajpayee, Shailendra Madhur, Shailesh Gautam, Ashok Beshram and Rajesh Verma will be amongst the prominent poets.
Dr US Tiwari, Co- chairperson of the conference said that Eyas El-Qawasmeh, Sumana Gupta, Pushpak Bhattacharaya, Anupam Basu, L V Subramaniam, Saroj Kaushik, P Bhowmick and S Umesh will be invited speakers during four day conference. A three-day workshop on “Recent trends in Human Computer Interaction” is being also jointly organised by IEEE UP Chapter, IIT Kanpur and IIIT Allahabad from January 19-21 in conjunction with the IHCI 2009 at IIIT-Allahabad, said Tiwari.
