International Men's Day observed across world
In many cities of India and other countries, the International Men's Day (IMD), November 19, was observed that initially and formally had originated in 1992 to raise awareness to address issues related to men and boys as well celebrate their contribution to the society and family life.

This year, IMD was meant to celebrate positive male role models and to raise awareness of men's issues like men's mental health, their higher suicide rates, toxic masculinity and gender inequality caused by special projects for women empowerment.

This year's IMD theme had been 'Positive Male Role Models' with an intent of encouraging men to 'teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man' and 'raise awareness of men's health and wellbeing.'

the idea for an IMD was first mooted in the 1960s for celebration akin to 'International Women's Day' (IWD) on March 8 dedicated to celebrating women. However, now both the celebrations are batting of gender equity.  It seems that both IWD and IMD started as reactionary celebrations to femininity and masculinity which pitted the two sexes against each other which needs to be undone.

Currently, IMD coincides with November observance marked by men growing their facial hair in an effort to promote conversations about men's mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. In the films and sports, this trend has picked up and youth are copying it.
