International Men's Day to be observed across India on November 19
Pink City Jaipur will be celebrating International Men's Day (IMD) on November 19 under the umbrella of Indian men's rights organization, Save Indian Family (SIF) that will be organizing the main event in Delhi and coordinating the observance in other major cities wherein its network exists.

Ritwik Bisaria Kumar, a men's rights activist associated with the NGO called Save Family Foundation (SFF) networked with SIF said, "In India, there are 49 laws that reek of gender bias. These laws recognise man as a criminal, so the foundation of the law itself has problems. Unfortunately, Indian lawmakers have not been able to check and amend them."

The Facebook page of SIF is gathering a good response on IMD celebration from men's rights groups and advocates. According to SIF, they had joined the observance with an inaugural celebration of IMD on November 19, 2007 and plans were made to continue the celebration annually. In 2009, India received the first corporate sponsorship of the IMD from Allen Solly, informed SIF.

SIFF has networked with helpline telephone numbers for distressed husbands and their family members in Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nagpur, Nasik, Surat, Jaipur, and Kolkata.

In Tamil Nadu's Thrissur, the Purusha Avakasa Samrakshana Samithi 'PASS' will be celebrating IMD on 19th November this year by assembling in front of Thrissur Corporation Office in the evening to discuss men's rights issues in the country.

The Facebook entries indicate that IMD will be celebrated in the cities such as Sangrur (Punjab), Pune (Maharashtra), Hyderabad (A.P.), Jaipur (Rajasthan) and it is expected that in coming days more cities will confirm their participation directly or on Facebook. However, SIF-networked cities are going to celebrate the IMD.

Some of the comments showing gender discrimination against men on the Facebook are as follows.

  • The average man's life expectation is still up to 7 years lower than that of a woman. The event aims to focus on men's health and well being, and educate about the importance of medical examinations and prevention.

  • Every Indian man should insist their company/organization to celebrate this day as women do celebrate their day in company/organization. This has become need of the hour as the suicide rate of married men in India has reached 89000 per annum!

  • Right of gender equality! No more gender-biased laws and judgments!! Stop Mental Harassment and Torture (of men)!!!

  • Man cannot be a criminal in eyes of society, but, after marriage when wife shouts against husband /man, then he become a CRIMINAL.

  • 82% of the Tax is paid by Males. It's high time that laws are made gender neutral in India.

  • Fighting for justice at biased IPC & Cr. PC. Tackling tolerance of violence against men and boys and also against all innocent people (is required).
