International Roma Day: United States reaffirms commitment to the inclusion and equal treatment
International Roma Day (April 8) was observed in many European countries to celebrate Romani culture and raise awareness of the discrimination being faced Romani people around the world. In some European countries the Roma communities celebrated the day exclusively and demanded their mainstreaming and extension of civil rights to them.

In a released Press Statement, US Secretary of State, Rex W Tillerson stated, "On behalf of the United States, I wish all Roma everywhere a happy International Roma Day."

On April 8, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage and many societal contributions of the Roma, including the over one million Americans of Romani descent, he added

"To commemorate this day, the United States reaffirms our commitment to the inclusion and equal treatment of all Roma people, wherever they call home," he stated further

It is found that occasional concerns are often raised by some world leaders and Amnesty International for growing Antiziganism resulting in the Roma community's widespread discrimination and worsening living conditions in many counties. Despite, Roma continues to be Europe's largest ethnic minority but discrimination is rampant in Europe.

The Roma Cultural Centre of Malmo in Sweden observed the International Roma Day at Folkets Park with a minute of silence for the victims of Stockholm truck attack at market place. However, the celebration was marked with Roma food festival, dance performances and musical items.
