Interview with NSUI President Fairoz Khan
We are joined by Fairoz Khan, the national president of the National Students' Union of India(NSUI), one of the largest students organizations in the world. We asked him about student politics and Gujarat Assembly elections as he is a regular visitor to Gujarat.

Question: Sir,you are touring Gujarat regularly, what is the situation on the ground, which way the election in Gujarat is going, are we seeing the Revival of Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi is still very strong?

Answer: Firstly, I have visited nearly all corners of Gujarat, be it Ahmedabad, Surat or Baroda and interacted with the students' community. I can tell you with conviction and confidence that there's a strong under-current in Gujarat against misrule of the BJP and respected Rahul Gandhiji is the light in the darkness for the people of Gujarat. Rahulji is connecting with the masses understanding their problems. I have never seen this type of enthusiasm for any leader other than Rahul Gandhi.

Question: Sir, you were a student of political science during your masters' days, and JS Mill, perhaps one of the finest scholars of political science had said, "Student Politics will define the future," so according to you, with whom students of the country are connecting more, Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi?

Answer: I will say with confidence that students are connecting much-much more to Rahulji. Things have changed rapidly in the last one year. Across the country, NSUI is winning elections. We won the Delhi University elections, then elections of Punjab, Rajasthan Universities along with results of the JNU and Hyderabad University elections also going in our favour, defeating the BJP. The students are feeling cheated with fake promises of 'Acche Din'. Students are asking the government where are one crore jobs a year as per promise, moreover, 15 lakh jobs were lost due to demonetisation and imposition of the GST.On my recent visit to London, I met a few people who asked me: "What has your Prime Minister done? Is he crazy?" I will say that the BJP is trying to suppress the voices of students all over the country like they did in the Hyderabad Central University.

Question: Sir, you are from Jammu and Kashmir, what is the present situation over there, this government came with a lot of promises regarding Jammu and Kashmir, what is the ground reality?

Answer: In the J&K Assembly elections, the BJP and PDP contested against each other, but after the elections, they came together. This was complete betrayal of the mandate of the people. In Jammu and Kashmir, incidents of our soldiers getting killed in the line of duty have increased by three times this year due to wrong policies of the ruling government. They have nothing to do with the development of Jammu and Kashmir. I want to ask, what is BJP's current stand on Article 370? They are trying alienate the people of the state by creating hurdles in jobs for the youth. In short, BJP's policies are complete failure as far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned.

Question: Sir, you are the president of NSUI, a major students organization, what is your vision and what changes you want to bring for the students' community?

Answer: I am working on many new ideas which I cannot share right now. But for me the main agenda is to bring leaders from the grassroot level. In our country 65 per cent of the population is below 35 years of age, so I want to bring them to lead the country and that leadership should come from everywhere irrespective of caste, religion, region.
