Introducing e-postal order for payment of RTI fee

It refers to introduction of e-postal-orders for payment of RTI fees. Idea can be useful for on-line filing of RTI petitions.

FOR NORMAL filing of RTI petitions through hard copies, Indian Posts department should issue special attractive RTI stamps for payment of RTI fees and copying charges, on lines of earlier issued such stamps by the department for payment of licence-fees for radio and television sets.

This will save huge amount of money on handling postal-orders presently used for payments towards RTI fees and copying charges. According to an RTI response, the department had to spend Rs. 22.71, as per cost in the financial year 2005-06, on handling a postal-order which must have crossed Rs. 30 after implementation of Sixth Pay Commission. Issuing RTI stamps will result in saving of such handling cost of postal-orders used as RTI fees.

Multi-coloured attractive RTI stamps with suitable designs in different denominations will also make use of RTI Act user-friendly and attractive, especially for students and youngsters. System will abolish difficulties faced at times in using postal-orders as mode of payment of RTI charges.
