Normally people who tend to be quiet and reserved are considered to be weak and timid, especially if you live in the eastern part of the world where people are social and warm by nature. In the eastern part collectivism is the word.
FOR A long time I have been thinking about the two major shades of a human character – being an introvert or an extrovert.
I have been an introvert throughout my life and thus find it hard at times to justify my personality. I honestly believe it that I’d rather be hated for who I am than to be loved for who I am not because trying to be someone else is a waste of person you are.
Normally people who tend to be quiet and reserved are considered to be weak and timid, especially if you live in the eastern part of the world where people are social and warm by nature. In the eastern part collectivism is the word. In the west individuals are given more importance and maybe for this reason when it comes to teamwork....countries like China, Japan, Korea are the best of the lot. Britishers are considered to be cold and rude by nature In the west the quiet ones are termed as the most composed beings with control over their emotions. Maybe that’s why you can see that a Rahul Dravid may be regarded as a weak captain not because he is a bad captain but because he is not too expressive on field. Here in India people love to see the aggressive side and just adore those little moments of aggression that can keep their adrenalin pumping. On the contrary a calm and composed man like Dravid may find it difficult at times just because he is haunted by questions concerning his personality and nature. Recently people were little amused by the way Abhinav Bindra carried himself to the podium ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. He was subdued and quiet. I guess this world belongs to the extroverts and they are the live wires of the society, the smiling faces. An introvert may just fade away even in the heights of glory or even in the clouds of darkness. They are like ones who love to remain in their own shell not because they don’t like others but they feel more sheltered. An extrovert wants to share everything with people and perhaps this is how they get motivated. An introvert goes by self motivation and thus wants to guard his feelings like anything. They are the most sensitive lot but can control their emotions very well which is a tough job. An extrovert will feel suffocated if he keeps to himself because they live by sharing everything. Tom Hanks says that he was horribly shy and reserved when he was young. Steve Waugh was another one who was an introvert n so was Einstein, Newton, Jordan, Spielberg and many others. Those who are shy or reserved are so because they are not interested in others but are the ones who are lost in themselves that people tend to misjudge them. I would honestly agree that this kind of self indulgence is not good because at the end of the day you end up being in the minority. People will have their perception but then one can only survive if you can come over it otherwise one needs to change. Being an introvert should not be considered as an abnormal trait because at times you may realise that silence does speak louder than words. You just need a little bit of compassion to understand it that’s all.
.A nice read. There are two types of introverts; ones who always dream of being extroverts but are stuck despairingly in their own shell due to basic shyness or low self confidence, while the others who are satisfied with what they are. I guess you belong to the second category which is really the better one.
However, i disagree with the Rahul Dravid part. He also made certain wrong decisions as a Captain.
By the way Gandhiji can be added to your list of introverts turned extroverts.
well this was not written to inspire!!!!....but it was an individuals perception being the introvert i am....anyways thanks a lot for commenting....tc...
