TODAY, JUNE 7, at 10:00 AM (pacific time) Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, will unveil iPhone OS 4.0 which will bring more than 100 features for the iPhone and iPod Touch owners. The much talked World Wide Developers Conference 2010 (WWDC10) will kick off with Jobs’ keynote which, as rumoured, will in all probability announce a new iPhone, the iPhone OS 4.0 and lots of other things and updates.
However, in this article, the focus will be on the iPhone owners and what should they be expecting. The first thing which comes to mind is the some major features that Steve Jobs has already made public during the iPad launch. They are: multitasking, unified mailbox, folders for apps, iAd platform, game centre etc. along with a hundred more!Starting with the multitasking, it won’t support iPhone and iPhone 3G due to hardware inefficiency. Multitasking was sorely missed in the premium phone which is undoubtedly one of the best smartphone on the planet. Now the iPhone owners can have more than one application running simultaneously. Replying to an SMS while playing a game is possible now! (yes that needs an exclamation mark for it isn’t available to iPhone owners!) Now the users can easily switch between applications without exiting them. Apple had made sure that the new update doesn’t drain the battery with improved software and technology as other phones do.
Another feature is the unified mailbox which means now one can have all the mail clients in one inbox. One can integrate all the inboxes like Gmail, Live mail, Yahoo etc. in one inbox and doesn’t have to keep on going in and out of one inbox to another. This will give an ease to the person who have work, home and other separate accounts and receive mails regularly.Folders will give iPhone owners a reason to rejoice, now one can have as many as 2160 applications on one’s device that too without the headache of swiping endlessly to the custom home-screens. The user can now have folders for apps which can store application in one folder and show the folder on the screen. The folders can be named, renamed, deleted with ease.Other features that are very handy, found in the SDK, are support of dictionary features. One can add words to dictionary and make the iPhone learn words, a great feature given the fact that we generally use shorter words without vowels while typing SMSes. Indian users write their native languages in roman and iPhone’s suggestions make it difficult to type fast. It will also now underline the wrong words in red dotted line as in general text editing tools and Macs.Apart from these people are expecting more powerful 5MP camera with flash, a front camera, 32 GB and 64GB versions, a new design, more RAM, faster processor. The owners are adviced to be ready for this powerful update which will make their iPhone even more enviable. The iPhone OS 4.0 update software will be available to download in the iTunes and the moment the iPhone is connected to iTunes(you must have the latest iTunes installed on your PC or MAC) it will prompt the user to update the software, say yes and let it download and install it on your phone. Please don’t disconnect in between as the update may start all over again.
