iPhone 5, armed with the latest iOS 6 operating system is eagerly sought in India. Although Apple stores are yet to have it but it is a hot commodity in various grey markets of the country, where it was sold for as high as whopping 100,000 rupees.
APPLE FANS in
India were not part of the euphoria that gripped the developed nations over acquiring the iPhone 5 as soon as it hit the stores owing to the fact that Apple is yet to launch the coveted device here. However that hasn't deterred the customers in India to lay their hands on the phone from other means. Thanks to the shady grey markets in Mumbai and Delhi, the Apple iPhone is vanishing in spite of its high prices.
Available in both Heera Panna market of Mumbai and Khan Market of Delhi, the iPhone 5 has three versions that start with Rs. 76,000 and go up to whopping Rs 1,00,000. While the 16 GB phone is priced at Rs 76,000, the 32GB version costs Rs 85,000, and the 64GB costs one lakh rupees. This is costier than most of the Apple products so far.
Yet somehow the price is not playing a deterrent as people are still purchasing the latest gizmo that has another hitch for the people in India. The phone requires a nano sim that no mobile service provider provides in India. However seeing the rush in the market several service providers have placed orders for the nano sim that is compatible with the new phone.
Apple sold 5 million phones on the first weekend itself worldwide and Indian market too would not be a disappointment. The official launch date of Apple iPhone 5 in India is yet to be announced by the California-based company but according to Firstpost sources, it will be released near Diwali when people would be in a buying mood. For those, who cannot wait for so long they already know the places to visit in Delhi and Mumbai.
