With seven wins from nine matches, Kings XI Punjab has been one of the best teams in IPL 2014. But, the same cannot be said for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who lie mid table with four wins from five matches. So, when these two teams clash later today, Hyderabad must win the game, if they are to keep their hopes alive to reach the next stage of the competition.
Sunrisers will not find it easy against the powerful looking Punjab team, which bears some of the best T20 players namely Sehwag, David Miller, Glenn Maxwell and George Bailey. It is primarily these batsmen, which has helped them cross the line with ease. Especially, Maxwell has been the standout performer for Punjab with 474 runs at an amazing strike rate of 198. When Maxwell has failed, other batsmen have upped their game to help Punjab turn victorious.
The match could primarily be a fight between Punjab batsmen and Hyderabad bowlers. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Amit Mishra and Dale Steyn have all been impressive with the ball in their hands. Kumar is their highest wicket taker with 17 wickets, but the rest have also been among the wickets. With Dale Steyn in their ranks, even the in-form Maxwell will not take the bowler lightly.
But, it is the Hyderabad batsmen, which might let them down. Apart from Finch and Warner, rest of the batsmen have not rose to the occasion, which is a big let down for the team. With 297 runs in his kitty so far, David Warner has been their best bet and once again, his team mates would look upto him to deliver the goods against a decent looking Kings XI bowling line up. Sandeep Sharma and Balaji have been the most successful bowlers for Punjab with 13 and 11 wickets respectively.
In the last encounter between the two sides, Punjab Kings won the game easily by 72 runs. It was game, where Punjab bowlers and batsmen put up a good show. If Punjab comes up with a similar performance, it could spell doomsday for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
