IPL 2014: MI desperate for victory against KXIP
Mumbai Indians, a team packed with stars has been a huge disappointment, as they languish in the seventh position of the standings table, as they take on the high flying Kings XI Punjab later tonight at Mohali. With Kings XI having made it through to the final four, it is Mumbai Indians who need to win their match, if they are to have any outside chance of reaching the next stage.
It is going to be a tough
ask to defeat the in-form Punjab
team, whose players have been
buzzing with a lot of confidence, primarily their batsmen. Glenn
Maxwell in particular has been their best player with 531 runs in the
competition so far. He has destroyed each and every bowling attack in
the IPL. The Aussie is also supported by other players such as
Sehwag, Bailey, Miller etc making it a combined team effort.
To stop these batsmen from
Indians would be looking forward to their lethal
bowler, Lasith Malinga, who is one of the best T20 bowlers going
around in international cricket, along with Harbhajan Singh. Malinga
has been their best bet with 16 wickets so far and Harbhajan with 10.
If these bowlers can contain the strong batting line up of Punjab,
anything can happen, for Mumbai possess a strong batting line up of
their own to scare the opponents away.
Though, most of their
batsmen may not have looked excellent with the bat, but they have
come up with crucial scores. Players such as Pollard, Michael Hussey,
Rayudu, Rohit Sharma need to show their class and help Mumbai win. If
these players get in, Punjab could well be in for a long night.
Punjab depend on Mitchell
Johnson and Sandeep Sharma for crucial breakthroughs, as they have
taken 10 and 17 wickets respectively. If these players are dealt with
decently, Mumbai could well reamin in the hunt for the final four
