Mumbai Indians batsmen have not been at their best, though their T20 records are quite formidable. Kieron Pollard has been their best batsmen with 203 runs, Karthik (193) and Rohit Sharma (182), but these players can, on their given day turn the match on its head. In the bowling department as well, apart from Malinga with 11 wickets, none have fared well. So it is right to conclude that Mumbai have failed with both the bat and ball in their hand.
But, the same cannot be said for CSK, who has been doing well in both the departments, which can be justified from their position in the points table. The opening pairing of Smith and McCullum have been a major force, where they have scored 339 and 314 runs respectively. Their bowling has also been equally impressive with MM Sharma and R Jadeja scalping 14 and 11 wickets respectively.
More than CSK
requiring the victory, it is Mumbai Indians who are desperate for a
win as that would bring them into contention to progress into the
next round of the competition.
